I don’t do a lot of swimming, in fact only twice so far this year, neither time for very long, but both times in a lake. At Lindau, in the Bodensee (Lake Constance) on a very hot day in July, and then in one of Norway’s myriad small inland lakes in August. Swimming in clean, fresh water is just bliss, especially if surrounded by mountains or pine forests.
The other family favourite is the Solebad in Schwaebisch Hall. Pools with three different temperatures, plus a cold plunge pool. The warm pools have massage jets, and whirlpools, and bubbles. Utterly relaxing. And if you go outside and do some leisurely lenghts you can swim in the rain, or in the snow, feeling the little cold star-kisses on your shoulders.
